• About Gates of Krynn MUD

Age of Dragons (now Gates of Krynn) was created in 1995 by a group of players that came from the MUD Empire (now known as Imperium). Using the codebase CircleMUD (now known as tbaMUD), they had an operable MUD by summer of 1995, which was set at the onset of the War of the Lance thematically. The game quickly obtained a dedicated following, some of them also players of Empire, others who found the MUD via word of mouth or the MUD listings site The MUD Connector. Role playing became part of the MUD culture quickly, as did open world, unrestricted pvp (though there were rules to protect abuse, targetting of new players and harrassment).

The game remained popular for a number of years, but eventually became more or less unplayed in the years following 2006 or so. This incarnation, the classic CircleMUD version remains online, and receives sporadic attention from developers and old players from time to time still. However the code is very outdated, and many of the intended improvements and additions really amounted to 'reinventing the wheel', in terms of what other codebases had to offer.

So, in 2015, some of the old patrons of the original/classic MUD decided to remake the MUD using the codebase, CoffeeMUD. CoffeeMUD is perhaps the most feature rich codebase out there. By importing our world into the CoffeeMUD engine, we have saved ourselves hundreds of hours of code development, most of which was rather tedious.

And that is where we are today. The world has been imported, and we've made adjustments to the 'look and feel' to more closely resemble the classic CircleMUD version. We invite you to keep an eye on the news on this web site, as well as the postings on our Facebook page.
